Parents are strong — and even stronger together.

In a room…

…inside the heart of CCVI, past the sensory-driven Exceeding Expectations mural, and beside the corridor where many toddlers learn to navigate stairs for the first time in their lives, a young adult returns to the place she nearly grew up in. She is successful, thrives in middle school, and is compassionate toward others. She stands in front of parents holding their newborn children with a diagnoses unfamiliar to them. She was once that newborn child, surrounded by unknowns, but now she is a CCVI alum and here to tell each parent that help is on the way.

During group sessions, CCVI frequently invites alumni, parents, and experts to speak about their experience as individuals who have been in your shoes. Meetings often include stories, lessons, and advice on how to be the best parent for a child with visual impairment.

If a parent were to observe the room around them during a group session, they will find families who are learning about their children together. They will find professionals leading lectures with decades of history working with individuals with visual impairment. They will participate in activities that shine a light on the experiences their child will have within these walls.

Support network

Since the doors of CCVI opened in 1952, parents have come together to support in many ways — from painting and repairing a classroom in the original building to volunteering in classrooms and at events. As a support group, the Parent Group meets monthly for educational and social opportunities in the area.

Thank you to all parents for getting involved, staying active, and making CCVI a welcoming environment.
