 Connection to hope

Overview

Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired is committed to connecting the dots between families and resources for children with visual impairments. Serving individuals in over 42 counties, well beyond our home base in Kansas City, there are options available for every case; the only thing left to make a difference is your help.

Anyone can make a referral for services from CCVI, and there are even options for children through 21 years of age. Whether a child is right for the Early Intervention Program that educates children until age three, the Early Learning Academy that serves until age eight, or the Mobile Outreach for Vision Education program that can connect young adults to specialists through high school, there is support available.

With all the specialized programs, it can be difficult to understand where a child fits best. Don’t worry! Leave that to the experts at CCVI. Let’s have a conversation about your situation.

mobile outreach for vision education program

School Districts looking for therapeutic or specialized services to be provided onsite within their district schools can join the Mobile Outreach for Vision Education (MOVE) Program. This allows children to receive one on one services without enrolling in the Early Intervention or Preschool Program, based on the recommendation and guidance of an individualized educational plan. No matter which stage of the educational process a child is at, certified professionals with direct experience serving individuals with visual impairment are available to attach body oriented goals to a learning plan. The Mobile Outreach for Vision Education (MOVE) program provides specialized services to school districts on a contract basis for individuals with visual impairments (age 3-21). This comprehensive partnership brings CCVI therapists, specialists, and educators with focus on visual impairments into the building of the student’s home district.

Having a conversation.

CCVI is here to be a resource for parents and help shed light post-diagnosis. In many cases, parents aren’t even aware that the vision of a child is prohibiting their learning and don’t seek a diagnosis. By referring a child to CCVI, you build the momentum immediately, which will avalanche during the child’s educational career, culminating with the highest level of success.

CCVI has received referrals from:

  • Ophthalmologists

  • Social Workers

  • Optometrists

  • Neurologists

  • NICU Professionals

  • Physicians

  • Hospitals

  • Government Entities

  • Clinics

  • Vision Specialists

  • Family Members

  • Service Coordinators

  • Educators

  • School Districts

Multiple Disabilities

As a parent, hearing that child has a diagnosis that will impact them for the rest of their life is often a challenging concept. It can be even more difficult when you receive multiple diagnoses of multiple disabilities. Caring for a child with multiple disabilities can be synonymous with having physical therapy appointments on one side of town and IEP meetings on the other. When you refer a child to CCVI, you are referring them to just one location.
